9-Year-Old Girl Gamer Raises Almost $20,000 to Create Video Game

Mackenzie Wilson is an avid gamer whose dream is to create video games. Despite criticism from her brothers, she set out to raise the $829 to cover the RPG STEM Camp she wished to attend. She launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise the money on March 20th, and in less than three days it has gained almost $20,000 in support. She says her goal is make a fun, clean, age-appropriate game:

I want to create an RPG that isn’t too violent and isn’t filled with bad words, still has a good story line & cool graphics, but has shorter cut scenes, less menus & fewer controls.  And most importantly, I want a game that allows team members to face danger together and get hurt but doesn’t kill team mates off & eliminate them from battle.

In addition to paying for the camp, Mackenzie was hoping there would a little left over to help pay for a laptop. With the amazing response of almost 1,000 different backers, she can not only pay for camp and a laptop, she can now make many more of her dreams a reality. My faith in humanity is restored.
