In a recent interview with Good Morning America, actress Carey Mulligan shared her sources of inspiration for her role as Daisy Buchanan in Warner Bros.’s The Great Gatsby, directed by Baz Luhrmann. Mulligan says in addition to studying the 1925 novel she looked to author F. Scott Fitzgerald’s wife, Zelda Fitzgerald to help create her character.

Additionally, Mulligan says that she turned to America’s first family of reality TV, the Kardashians, to inspire her role in this classic piece of American literature, “The Kardashians are sort of a reference in that Daisy’s purpose in life is—she feels her purpose is to look very beautiful all the time and to constantly be on show. So what I was trying to imply was that there’s an essence of that where it’s part of their job and the amazing business they run as the Kardashians is looking beautiful a lot and looking very present, presentational and perfect.”
