Doc Rivers Traded to Clippers

After days of on and off negotiations between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Clippers, Doc Rivers was officially traded pending league approval. As part of the agreement, Doc will sign a 3-year $21 million dollar contract and the Celtics will receive a 2015 1st round pick from the Clippers. Its believed that Clippers point guard Chris Paul wanted Rivers as the team’s next head coach.

Trading for head coaches is an oddity in professional sports, but it does happen on occasion. Lou Piniella was traded to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2002 for outfielder Randy Winn, Ozzie Guillen was traded to the Miami Marlins for prospects in 2011, and Jon Gruden was traded to the Tampa Bay Bucs in 2006 for a king’s ransom.

Of all of the bizarre non-player related professional sport trades, though, the one involving Al Michaels and a cartoon bunny will always take the cake…
