When the Westboro Baptist Church announced they were going to picket country legend George Jones’ funeral, it generated little more than a giant, disinterested “Really… Whatever… ” from the media. Not receiving the press they anticipated, Westboro canceled the the protest and turned their attention to the Oklahoma City Thunder playoff game.
OKC Thunder playoff games on the Westboro Agenda.
That announcement ended up being an even bigger ho-hummer.
The group has finally settled on something that has caught a little bit of attention: a May 18th picket of the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss).
Why, pray tell? Not because the school was once classified as a top party school, but because the school was featured in the movie The Blind Side, starring Sandra Bullock. Apparently the church now classifies Ole Miss, and football at Ole Miss, as an idol, which casual observers might actually agree with, during the Mississippi State vs. Ole Miss game week.
But, The Blind Side first came out as a book in 2006 and a movie in 2009 and it’s not even football season! A little behind the times, eh Westboro?
Maybe the church should also protest the city of Chicago for its involvement in the debauchery of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the White Star Line for the senseless deaths on the Titanic, and the Dodo Bird - obviously cursed by God for being flightless.
