After a one-day break for the 4th of July, the Zimmerman trial resumed with the testimonies of the mothers of both Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman.
Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton, testified that the voice screaming for help on the tape of a 911 call was that of her son, who was shot and killed last spring. “My youngest son is Trayvon Benjamin Martin. He’s in heaven,” she said as her questioning began. After her testimony, the state of Florida rested its case against 29-year-old Zimmerman.
Meanwhile, the defense opened its case by calling Zimmerman’s mother, Gladys Zimmerman, to the stand. After playing the tape, defense attorney Mark O’Mara asked her how she knew whose voice was screaming in the background. “Because he’s my son,” she replied.
