The powerful House Oversight Committee will hear testimony today from three so-called ‘whistle-blowers’- Gregory Hicks, Mark Thompson, and Eric Nordstrom - who all claim to have intimate knowledge of the government’s actual reaction to the Benghazi terror attack. Many insiders have claimed that the witnesses’ accounts will directly contradict the White House’s narrative and could reveal ‘explosive’ details of official misconduct.
Gregory Hicks is believed to be the star witness; he was the former deputy chief of mission in Libya, and recently-released excerpts from private statements he gave to investigators last month have helped to fuel the media fire surrounding today’s hearings. Mark Thompson, the acting deputy assistant Secretary of State for counterterrorism, Eric Nordstrom, former regional security officer in Libya, and Hicks are all expected to testify that everyone involved knew that the Benghazi attack was a an act of terrorism from the outset of the conflict.
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Ca.) is the head of the House Oversight Committee and will preside over today’s hearing. He has suggested that the Administration’s shape-shifting statements to media outlets in the wake of the attack were ‘likely perpetrated by political concerns.’
The hearing will begin on Capitol Hill at 11:30 this morning. ViralRead will be live-blogging the event below.
