One half of the 90′s phenom rap group Kris Kross, Chris Kelly, died of an apparent drug overdose, after he was found unconscious at his Atlanta home yesterday, TMZ reports. Kelly, 34, who was known as Mac Daddy, when he performed with his partner Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith, was pronounced dead at the Atlanta Medical Center. Police said he had been using cocaine and heroin the night before he died.
Kris Kross, hit the top of the charts with their hit “Jump” in 1992 and remained on top of the Billboard Hot 100 for eight straight weeks, becoming one of only 11 songs to do so. The group had been discovered by singer Jermaine Dupri performing at a mall in Atlanta.
Perhaps the most awesome thing about Kris Kross was the way they dressed, and how their fashion sense spread quickly throughout the country. The two boys often dressed with their clothes on backwards, giving boys during the early 90′s a hip way to drive their mothers crazy.
RIP Mac Daddy. Thanks for making us want to Jump!
