Four days ago, Apple announced a contest that they will award a $10,000 App Store Gift Card to the person who downloads the 50 billionth app. In addition, the next 50 app downloads will win a $500 App Store Gift Card. With the announcement comes the question on everyone’s mind:

At the writing of this article, the counter is almost at 49.5 billion. With just a little over a half billion apps to go, it’s only a matter of time before the hashtag #50BillionsApps begins trending on Twitter. Some companies have already begun to use it to promote their apps, because surely the app that is the 50 billionth download will be intensely publicized.
