The NCAA Women’s basketball tourney wrapped up its semi-final round this weekend - sending UCONN and yet another Louisville team to the national championship game.

Like their male counterparts, the Louisville ladies had to mount a second half comeback in their Final Four appearance against Cal in order to earn a trip to the big game. They took a 10-point deficit into the locker room at the half, but returned with a vengeance to win a close one 64-57. Ramping up their D and going on an offensive tear, Cardinal stars Antonia Slaughter and Bria Smith came up big, scoring 18 and 17 points, respectively.

The Lady Huskies surprised everyone by beating up on Notre Dame after losing all three of their regular season match-ups this year and their past two meetings in the semi-final round of the tournament. UCONN dominated 83-65 behind freshman Breanna Stewart who put up a career-high 29 points. They held Notre Dame star Skylar Diggins to a paltry 3 for 15 shooting on the night.

UCONN defeated Louisville handily in the regular season meeting, winning 72-58, but there’s definitely something special going on in Louisville basketball right now. Should be a great game. The two teams face off Tuesday night in New Orleans.
