Touching: Kid with Brain Cancer Scores a Touchdown for Nebraska #Huskers

Let’s face it spring games are essentially hyped scrimmages.

In the words of Allen Iverson, we are really just talking about practice.

But occasionally in sports, there are things that prick our humanity and prove why we love sports so much.

As a native Nebraskan, I know that in the backyards and streets of small communities of such towns as Norfolk, Elkhorn, and Grand Island as young boys we dreamt of running 70 yards for a touchdown in Memorial Stadium.

Bo Pelini, the coach of Nebraska and his team have adopted a seven year old cancer patient named Jack Hoffman. Jack has been a fixture at practices this spring as he fights brain cancer.

The sad reality is that Jack may never have the opportunity to become a walk on at Nebraska. So, when coach Pelini put him in to receive a hand-off from quarterback Taylor Martinez…well…watch for yourself and appreciate the humanity of sports:

Jack Hoffman (#TeamJack) now goes in the official Spring Game statistics for the University of Nebraska.
