BREAKING: Civilian Fatally Wounded in Fort Knox Shooting (Updated)

There has been a shooting at Fort Knox in Kentucky shortly after 5PM EST near the Army’s Humans Resources Command, which has 3,800 employees.

The army base was on lockdown and traffic shut down in both directions immediately after the shooting.

A Ft. Knox spokesman says the post lifted its lockdown just after 7 p.m., in the midst of a shooting investigation on post.”  (via WDRB)

There are conflicting reports as to whether there have been any casualties or injuries.  Fox News says that there haven’t been any, while NBC News is reporting that a “civilian was flown by helicopter to a hospital, but there was no immediate word on the victim’s condition, a military official told NBC News.”

Fox News just reported:

“Mary Trotman, a spokesperson for the FBI in Louisville, said two agents had been dispatched to Fort Knox to assist with the investigation, Reuters reported. Trotman said the shooter or shooters had not been apprehended to her knowledge.”

According to WDRB a Fox-affiliated television station in Louisville, Kentucky,

“Civilian law enforcement sources off the post said they had been asked by military police to be on the lookout for a suspect in the case, but they could not provide further details.”

 

UPDATE 10:15 PM EST

Reuters is reporting that at least one person was wounded in the Fort Knox shooting. They have also reported that local police

“… have been asked by Fort Knox officials to be on the lookout for a tall black man driving a medium-sized, four-door brown car with tinted windows who may have driven off the base, said Bryce Shumate, spokesman for the police department in nearby Radcliff.”

WDRB  confirms fatal shooting at Fort Knox in a parking lot outside U.S. Army Human Resources Command.

Specific details have been released about suspect:

“Police are interested in speaking with an individual who is described as follows: A 5-foot, 9-inch African-American male with black hair and brown eyes.

 It is believed he may be using a black Yamaha motorcycle for transportation.”

“‘Special Agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command are investigating a personal incident and not a random act of violence,’ Chris Grey, spokesperson for the independent Army investigative agency, said in the statement.” (via Reuters)
