A Love Letter of Thanks and Gratitude

It’s that time of the year again when parents are scrambling to get their kids ready for the brand new school year. For some, it’s a reminder of a nightmare they will never forget.

On December 14, 2012, twenty children and 6 brave teachers were shot and murdered by 20-year-old Adam Lanza before he killed himself at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Nebla Marquez-Green lost her 6-year-old daughter Ana Grace on that day. Her son was there when the shooting occurred but he was unharmed.

A letter Mrs. Marquez-Green has written to teachers has gone viral and for good reason. It’s a love letter that is profound, heart wrenching and shouts hope and thanks to those we trust our kids with on a daily basis.

As a parent of two small children, I cannot even begin to imagine the pain and bravery of this mother.

Don’t let the teachers who end up in the news deter you from respecting the teachers who do try their hardest to empower our children to be the best they can be. I truly believe there are teachers who do really try to make each child feel special and go above and beyond in achieving that.
