Death and the Cirque Du Soleil

In Cirque Du Soleil’s 30-year history, there has never been a death as a result of an accident in any of there popular shows.

That all changed Saturday night when performer Sarah Guyard-Guillot, mother of two who has been a part of the show since 2006, fell to her death during a performance of   at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.

A spokesperson for the company released the following statement, “The entire Cirque du Soleil family is deeply saddened by the accidental death” and Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté,  added, “I am heartbroken. I wish to extend my sincerest sympathies to the family. We are all completely devastated with this news.”

A witness tweeted that the wire snapped and she fell awkwardly 50 feet to the ground.

The show was cancelled and all performances have been suspended until further notice.

An investigation is pending and the Clark County Coroner’s Office will rule on the cause of death.
