VIDEO:Three Year Old Boy Hears For the First Time

Due to the absence of  a cochlear nerve which sends signals from your ears to your brain, three year old Grayson Clamp was born deaf. But with the help of a medical miracle, Grayson has heard for the first time. As part of an FDA trial, the three year old has undergone “Auditory Brain Stem Implant” surgery at  UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. Check out the heartwarming video below:

“Auditory Brain Stem Implant” involves a microchip implanted in the patient’s brain to remedy the absence of the cochlear nerve and help the patient to hear. Grayson’s parents are cautious but optimistic.

Nicole Clamp told WBTV in Charlotte, “We don’t know exactly what he hears. His brain is still trying to organize itself to use sound.” From the video, it’s pretty clear that Grayson is hearing something and that’s pretty amazing.
