Immigration Raids Target 7-Eleven Stores

Federal immigration officials early Monday raided 7-Eleven convenience stores in Virginia and in Long Island, New York. Agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reportedly seized 14 stores in the franchise chain and were investigating others suspected of involvement in a scheme that smuggled illegal immigrants from Pakistan and paid them using phony Social Security numbers.

The New York Times reported that “prosecutors were seeking $30 million in forfeiture from the stores and their corporate parent.” A federal indictment is expected to be unsealed today, and U.S. officials will be holding a press conference to discuss the investigation.
