Tiger Woods Wins the 2013 Players Championship

Tiger Woods won his 4th title of the year on Sunday defeating Kevin Streelman, Jeff Maggert, and David Lingmerth by 2 strokes at the Players Championship. Often known as golf’s “5th major”, the tournament traditionally has a loaded field and plenty of memorable moments thanks to the course’s signature 17th and 18th holes.

The 2013 tournament was no different, highlighted by a feud between the world’s best player and one who was once viewed as his sucessor. Many viewed Sunday as a chance for Sergio Garcia to prove himself on the big stage as he was within striking distance of Tiger after calling him out for bad sportsmanship on Saturday. Garcia finished tied for 8th after a brutal final round 76.

People will remember that Tiger ultimately won this tournament but his feud with Garcia will also resonate for some time. Sure Tiger has had a history of throwing tantrums but the incident on Saturday didn’t warrant Garcia to lose his composure the way he did. Garcia has had a terrific career in golf, but despite his immense talent he is still without a major championship. Days like Saturday and Sunday of this year’s Players Championship remind us why.
