Lily James of ‘Downton Abbey’ Wins Coveted Role in Disney’s New Cinderella Movie

The glass slipper fits! Director Sir Kenneth Branagh has chosen Downton Abbey actress Lily James to star in Disney’s forthcoming live-action version of Cinderella.

Branagh’s choice of the 24-year-old James ends a bit of fairy-tale drama for the Disney project. Mark Romanek was originally slated to direct the film and Harry Potter star Emma Watson was supposed to play the title role, but Romanek left citing “creative differences,” according to the Los Angeles Times, and Watson exited earlier this year. The new Cinderella is due to hit theaters in 2014.
