Jeff Bauman Jr. - Boston Bombing Victim in Graphic Viral Photo Now in Stable Condition

Jeff Bauman Jr., Boston Marathon tragedy victim, is in stable condition.

One of the most startling and graphic images from yesterday’s Boston Marathon tragedy was of a young man being swiftly wheeled away from the site of the bombing - both legs completely gone from below the knees.  It is now being reported that that man is Jeff Bauman Jr. of Chelmsford, MA, and that he is currently in stable condition at Boston Medical Center.

His father Jeff Bauman Sr. made a statement in a Facebook post this morning:

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers, they did help greatly. Unfortunately my son was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. He had to have both lower limbs removed due to the extensive vascular and bone damage. I was with him last night and am heading back down to Boston - Boston Medical Center to be with him today. He went back into surgery last night at midnight for exploratory due to fluid in his abdomen. He came out at 2:30 and doctors informed us he was doing better. Thanks again to all you guys and girls, my friends. I’ll keep you informed.

Bauman Jr. was at the Marathon to watch his girlfriend participate, and his sister said that he was sitting near the finish line so that he could cheer her on as she crossed it.

In the image, Bauman Jr. is being aided by 2 emergency workers, while hero bystander Carlos Arredondo is seen pinching Bauman’s femoral artery closed, helping stop the bleeding. Arredondo was reportedly attending the Marathon in honor of his sons - one who died serving in Iraq and the other who took his own life after battling depression over the loss of his brother.

A friend of Bauman’s took to Reddit later in the evening, posting updates on his injured pal, and noted that Arredondo’s heroism should not be forgotten, writing, “Carlos Arrendondo should never have to buy a drink in this town again.”

I'm not given to prayer. But I pray for the swift recovery of Jeff and thank God for the heroism of Carlos and prya for his healing from the loss of his son. What an amazing individual. God bless you both.

Of course he will recover...he has EVERYTHING TO LIVE FOR, that's why he's still here. In two years, I'll bet you my last dollar you will see him walking with two prosthetic legs and going back to college. Good luck Jeff, I don't know you but I'm pulling for a fast and speedy recovery and you and your family are in my prayers.
