In one of the most public political meltdowns in recent memory, former New York Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-Queens) was forced to resign his seat after a series of events in 2011 following a provocative tweet sent to the general public rather than as a direct message intended for a woman in Seattle. The tweet was exposed by the the late Andrew Breitbart and his affiliates, leading to a series of lies from Weiner claiming that he was the victim of a crime which ultimately led to a public apology and inevitably his resignation.
One of the infamous tweets that eventually forced former Conressman Anthony Weiner to resign in 2011
However, in a tell all interview this week, Weiner has made it clear that while he does not have the “burning desire” that he once had to run for office, he still yearns to return to the political stage and serve the people of New York City as their next mayor. The interview is the first time Weiner and his wife Abedin, aide to Hillary Clinton, have spoken at length about the 2011 incident.
If Weiner were to run, it would be one of the most remarkable comeback efforts launched in a short time frame, as New York City prepares for the post-Giuliani, post-Bloomberg era.
In the interview, Weiner says he wants people “to give me a second chance … I think to some degree I do want to say to them, ‘Give me another chance.’”
If he runs for President, here is a great potential running mate:
