We didn’t do it!
Haters gon’ hate, but please don’t blame Viral Read for jinxing the Miami’s Heat’s illustrious run for the record number of consecutive wins in the NBA.
True - we did post a story just days ago that may have excessively mentioned that the Heat were on an incredible run, looking like an absolutely, positively, can’t lose, sure thing to break the ’71-’72 Lakers long-standing record of thirty-three consecutive victories. Yes - we also may have gone out of our way to ever-so-slightly mock the continued crushing grief of Cavs fans as their former star bowled them over en route to the record. And it is possible that we mentioned the Heat’s scheduled path to glory seemed like a bit of a cake-walk. But on our behalf, no one on staff crossed paths with any black cats, walked under any ladders nor donned our favorite A-rod or Dan Marino jerseys while contributing to the previous article.
Full disclosure: our managing editor, however, might - might - have hastily assembled a voodoo doll out of some straw and bits of an LBJ game-worn, Cavs-era headband.
The Heat made it interesting at the end, but were outmatched from the get-go in a 101-97 loss to the Chicago Bulls. Thus endeth The Streak of 2013.
But we DIDN’T do it.
