Andy Murray, Wimbledon champion and Britain’s most popular public figure (for now), almost screwed up big time in the moments following his victory. He leapt into the stands and made the post-win celebratory rounds among his friends and family, then turned back to the court before a familiar voice rang out above the din.
It was his mum.
On the Today show, Murray spoke of his mother’s reaction after he admittedly “left her out” of his embrace parade. The pair were reunited after her screams reached his ears. Crisis avoided!
Murray is the first British man to take the Wimbledon trophy in 77 years, a fact that has the isle swooning. His popularity should last until the Prince/Princess of Cambridge makes his/her arrival sometime later this month.
