Banana Republic, a Gap Inc. chain, had a nice tie for sale that Emily Dreyfuss and her fiance thought they would order. Instead of receiving the tie and pocket square, however, they got a package with confidential information on roughly 20 former employees - including Social Security numbers, resignation letters, and W4 tax forms.
According to Yahoo News:
She had misgivings about the package as soon as it arrived. It was really heavy and didn’t say Banana Republic, but Gap Inc.
She and her fiancee have been buying each other presents, and she thought it may have been a really heavy piece of clothing with catalogs, said Dreyfuss, the daughter of actor Richard Dreyfuss.
According to Banana Republic, the original package must have gotten somehow confused with the employee information package, since they both are shipped in the same type of gray plastic bag. They are requesting that Dreyfuss return the information in a self-addressed stamped envelope that they are mailing to her. Additionally, they offered her the tie and pocket square free - but she declined.
All’s well that ends well, it seems. Although, in about nine months from now, we wonder if the couple will run into a similar situation:
